Activities for Busy Kids this Holiday Break

I have been busy busy cleaning up the blog, organizing my posts into categories and also adding some holiday kids activities posts up too.  In the process I realized how many kids activities I actually had on the blog!  So I decided to make a post dedicated to Kids activities, and I've rounded them all up to help you keep your kiddlets busy while they are on Holiday Break this year!

Just click on the title or the photo and it will take you to the details of each activity.

I'm sure I will be adding a few more to this list over the next few weeks.  But this is a great start to keeping them busy without making you too busy putting together the supplies.

21 Day Fix Meal Plan Day 4

I did my Lower Fix last night after Fraser went to bed and I had made kids lunches!

Yesterday's pizza lunch with a side salad was a success! I ordered an Autumn Harvest pizza with butternut squash, Brussels sprouts, kale, broccoli almonds and goat cheese. It was so yummy, but I made my self stop at 3 squares and saved the rest for my lunch today.

I counted Half the pizza as 1 yellow (crust) 1 green (veggies and salad) 1 Blue (cheese) and 1 Orange (almonds). The pizza crust was pretty thin so I didn't feel like it was too much for the yellow container, in fact I probably could have had 4 pieces but I wanted to save the other half for lunch today too!

Here are my planned meals for the day....

Breakfast

I needed to make sure my breakfast didn't have any Yellow Containers in it, just in case. My dinner for tonight is planned with no yellow containers also, so I may end up being able to have a treat tonight! Maybe a Peppermint mocha!
Greek Yogurt and Berries

1 Red container Greek Yogurt
1 Purple container Raspberries

Snack

Chocolate Shakeology blended with Ice = 1 Red

Lunch

Harvest Pizza

1 Yellow Container (Cust)
1 Blue Container (cheese)
1 Green container - veggies and Sliced Cucumbers
1 Orange Container (Almonds)

Dinner

Thai Chicken Satay Salad

1 Red Container - Chicken
2 Spoons - peanut sauce
2 Green Containers - Salad

My peanut Sauce recipe is pretty simple but so so good!

I use homemade peanut butter, a dash of soy sauce, a tsp of honey for sweetness, and water.  If it's not for the kids too I will also at a squirt of Sriracha too!

Put all the ingredients into a pot on the stove and heat on medium while wisking until it all comes together.

My plan is to grill the chicken skewers and then just simply top them with the peanut sauce.

I will make up a salad, with greens, carrots, peppers, cucumber and cabbage and place the chicken skewers onto the salad!  YUM

Perhaps I should post the recipe tomorrow after I've made it and have a photo to share!

Snack

I still have 1 Purple container, 1 Red container and 1 Yellow container left to work with by the end of the day... so somehow I'll have to figure out a really good snack for tonight!

21 Day fix Meal Plan Day 3

I did my Upper Fix last night after Fraser went to bed and my Lower Fix workout is happening tonight after Fraser is in bed again!  Asher will be at his Pace Concert until late every night this week... that kid is going to be so tired!

Today I have a work lunch at a pub style restaurant... I scoured that menu trying to find the healthiest option but it was very very limited. I'm allergic to quinoa and anything healthy on the menu had quinoa as the main ingredient!

I settled on an Autumn Harvest pizza with butternut squash, Brussels sprouts, kale, almonds and goat cheese.

No protein in this meal however so I'll be counting Half the pizza as 1 yellow, 1 green and 1 Blue depending on how big or how many veggies it has when it comes!

I also have a side salad coming too so that should make up for my Green container!

21 Day Fix Approved Peppermint Mocha

Peppermint-Mocha-Latte

I love peppermint mocha lattes. But, I know that they’re full of a ton of additives and preservatives.

The ingredients of Starbucks version (my personal favourite) are: espresso, milk, mocha sauce (corn syrup, water, high fructose corn syrup, sugar, cocoa (processed with alkali 13%), potassium sorbate, artificial flavor), and peppermint-flavored syrup (sugar, water, natural flavors, preservative, sodium benzoate, citric acid), whipped cream, and dark chocolate.

Calories in one Tall nonfat Peppermint Mocha Latte with no whip (add 70 calories and 7 grams of fat for whip): 220 Calories and 20g Fat!

Hmm. But luckily the incredible nutritionists from Beachbody whipped up their own version. I'm so excited to try their version of one of my favourite holiday drinks!  But I'm doing the 21 day fix right now.... Not to worry, it's 21 day fix approved and only counts for 1 Yellow container!

I plan to enjoy this as one of my treats this week!!  During the 21 Day Fix you are allowed 3 treats per week, you just have to give up one yellow container for the day, which is pretty hard for me!  But this Peppermint Mocha might be worth it!

Total Time: 10 min.
Prep Time: 5 min.
Cooking Time: 5 min.
Yield: 1 serving

Ingredients:
½ cup nonfat milk (or unsweetened almond milk)
2 Tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder
½ tsp. raw honey (optional)
¼ tsp. pure peppermint extract
1 cup brewed black coffee (or 1 shot espresso)
1 fresh mint leaf (for garnish; optional)

Preparation:
1. Bring milk, cocoa powder, and honey (if desired), and peppermint extract to a boil in medium saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
2. Remove from heat; mix vigorously with a whisk until frothy.
3. Pour coffee into a large serving mug; top with milk mixture.
4. Garnish with mint leaf if desired.

21 Day Fix Meal Plan Day 2

I did my Total Body Cardio Fix last night after the boys went to bed and my Upper Fix workout is happening tonight after Fraser is in bed!   I tried to get up early this morning to get it done and out of the way... but I couldn't fall asleep early last night like I had planned!

I don't mind doing my workout at night however!  It helps to motivate Gord and when Gord does his it motivates me to do mine.  So I think it's almost better for us to do our workouts at night time.

So today's meals I kept very similar to yesterdays' besides dinner.  Keeping your meals similair makes planning and prepping so much easier!  I'm looking forward to dinner tonight because it's Chicken Stirfry!  YUM

Dinner

Chicken Stirfry with Rice Noodles

Find the recipe for Chicken Stirfry with Rice Noodles here.  The Soy sauce in this recipe wont be 21 day fix approved and I would use the Braggs Liquid Aminos but I've heard mixed reviews on the product.  So for now I'll leave it at low sodium soy sauce.

1 Red Container - Chicken
1 Yellow Container - Rice Noodles
1 Green Container - Stirfry Veggies
